A study clock for Pomodoro study time

Pomodoro study time is 25 minutes of study and a 5-minute break, with a longer break after every fourth round. This page is the study clock for it: press Start once and the ring counts down each block, chimes at every change, and moves from study to break by itself. The dots under the time show where you are in each set of four.

How to study with this timer

  1. Pick one small topic before you press Start. Not “biology”, but “cell division: summarise the notes”. One round needs one clear target.
  2. Put your phone out of reach. Close the other tabs too. If something pops into your head, jot it down and go back.
  3. Stop at the chime. Write one line about where you got to, so the next round starts straight away.
  4. Leave the desk in the break. Stand up, drink some water, look out of a window. Scrolling a feed is the one break that doesn't rest you.
  5. Take the long break after four rounds. The timer gives you 15 minutes. Get right away from your books.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as the Pomodoro timer?

It runs the same rhythm: 25 minutes on, 5 off, and a long break after four rounds. This page labels the blocks "Study" and gives tips for studying. The Pomodoro timer is for any kind of work.

How many rounds should I do in one evening?

Fewer than you think. Four rounds with their breaks take a little over two hours, which is a good evening's study.

Can I play background sound while I study?

Yes. Choose Rain, Waves or Deep under the timer, or leave it Off. The sound plays only while the timer runs.

What's the best timer to study with?

The one you'll actually start. A good study timer starts with one press, times the breaks for you, so you never have to decide when to stop, and stays out of the way. That's what this page does, with nothing to install.

Is there a study clock app for my phone?

Yes. Tasks 'n Timers for iPhone is a study timer that starts from your task list, so each round is tied to the topic you're studying, and it keeps a heatmap of the days you studied.

Does the timer keep a record of my study time?

No. Nothing is stored here. The Tasks 'n Timers app for iPhone keeps every session against the topic you studied, with a heatmap of the days you studied.
