Your tasks live in Todoist or Google Tasks. Your timer lives somewhere else. So every session starts the same way: open the list, pick a task, switch apps, start a countdown that has no idea what you picked, and later try to remember what those 25 minutes were for. The best Pomodoro app for you is the one that closes that gap, because it reads the list you already keep.
A handful of focus timers now connect straight to a task manager. They differ more than their App Store pages suggest: which task apps they read, what they send back, whether they help you estimate, where your data ends up, and what the sync costs. We read each app's App Store page, website, pricing page, help pages, privacy policy and Todoist listing, and every claim below has a numbered link to the page it comes from. One of the five is ours, and we've held it to the same standard.
Why the timer should know your tasks
The Pomodoro Technique asks one thing before the clock starts: what are you working on? A timer that never asks makes that choice easy to skip, and a session with no task leaves nothing behind but a number.
Time is the scarcest resource, and unless it is managed nothing else can be managed.
When the timer reads your task list, three things get easier. Starting is one tap on the task instead of a copy and paste. The minutes are saved against that task, so a week later you can see where the time went. And when you finish, the tick goes back to Todoist or Google Tasks, so your list stays true without a second app to update.
What to compare in a Pomodoro app with task sync
- Which task apps it reads, and whether it keeps their structure (projects, subtasks).
- What it sends back. Completing a task in the timer should complete it in your list; some apps also send edits, new tasks and deletions.
- Whether it plans as well as times. An estimate per task lets you compare the plan with what happened.
- Where your data goes. On your phone, on the app maker's servers, or in your own cloud storage.
- What the sync costs. Sync is often the paid part.
- Which devices. iPhone only, or Android, a computer and the web too.

Focus Now
Focus Now connects the most task apps of the five: Todoist, Google Tasks, Microsoft To Do and Apple Reminders[1][2]. Completing, editing or deleting a task in Focus Now changes it in your task app; your focus time stays in Focus Now's own statistics[1][2]. Todoist subtasks arrive as tasks of their own, without the link to their parent[2]. You can estimate how many Pomodoros each task will take[5]. Task sync needs a free Focus Now account[2], and synced tasks are stored on Focus Now's servers in Firebase, in the EU and the US[6]. Its pricing and integrations pages put task sync in Pro, with a 7-day trial[2][3], while its help centre says integrations are available to free accounts too[4]. It runs on iPhone, iPad and Android, with a web app[1][2].
Best for: Microsoft To Do and Apple Reminders users, and anyone who wants the same timer on Android and in a browser.
Flowmo
Flowmo is a “Flowmodoro” timer: you work as long as the work lasts, and the break is a fifth of it, so 50 minutes of work earns 10 of rest[7][11]. It connects Todoist, TickTick, Microsoft To Do and Google Tasks[7][8], and the integrations are part of its Pro plan[10]. Its pages describe choosing a task to focus on[11]; none of them say whether finishing a task in Flowmo ticks it off in your task app, or mention estimates. It runs on iPhone, iPad and Android, and in the browser[7][9][12].
Best for: TickTick users, and anyone who prefers flexible sessions to fixed 25-minute blocks.
FocusCommit
FocusCommit pairs a Pomodoro timer with Kanban boards and a GTD-style workflow[14]. It imports Google Tasks lists and sends new tasks, edits, completions and deletions back to Google Tasks; a task you delete in Google Tasks stays in FocusCommit[16]. It connects Microsoft To Do too[15]; its pages don't name Todoist. Each task can carry an estimated number of intervals, shown as progress like “2 / 4”, and the timer runs short and long breaks[17]. The timer works without an account, but the Google Tasks import needs Premium and a sign-in[16][17]. It has the widest device list here, from Apple Watch to Windows[14][18].
Best for: Google Tasks or Microsoft To Do users who want a board view, or a timer on a Mac or Windows PC too.
FocusFrog
FocusFrog is a Todoist-only Pomodoro timer for iPhone[20]. Tasks and completions sync both ways with Todoist[21], you can set Pomodoro goals per task and mark a “Daily Frog”[20][23], and it runs focus, short-break and long-break cycles[20]. No account is needed, and your data stays on your device, with a backup you export to a file[20][21][22]. Todoist sync is free during its early access; Pro, at $69.95 a year, adds advanced stats and themes[20].
Best for: Todoist users on iPhone who want classic Pomodoro cycles with breaks, for free.
Tasks 'n Timers
Tasks 'n Timers is our app, so read this part with that in mind. It is an iPhone app where your task list and the timer are the same screen[24].
- Google Tasks, free and both ways. Your lists are your Google Tasks lists. Add, edit, complete, move or delete a task and the change goes back to Google.
- Todoist with Pro. Your projects become lists, with subtasks and sections. Add, edit, finish, move and delete tasks, and every change goes back to Todoist[24].
- Or no account at all. Lists kept only on your phone work fine[24].
- Estimates next to the real time. Give a task an estimate, run sessions on it, and see the minutes spent beside it. Plan the day in Today.
- Keep going when it's flowing. Add 5 to 50 minutes while a session runs.
- Your history stays yours. It lives on your iPhone and, with Google connected, in a private app folder in your own Google Drive[24]. It never goes to servers of ours.
What it doesn't do: it is iPhone only, it doesn't connect Microsoft To Do, Apple Reminders or TickTick, and it doesn't run a break timer. When a session ends, you decide when to rest.
Best for: Google Tasks users who want a timer that syncs for free, and Todoist users who want estimates, a daily plan and their focus history in their own Drive.
Also worth knowing
RoundPie, the app once called PomoDone, connects a timer to a long list of services, Todoist, Google Tasks, Trello and Asana among them; its FAQ says some integrations are for Premium plans only[25]. 2day adds a Start button with a focus timer right inside Todoist[26]. Todoist keeps a full list in its time-tracking integrations directory[27].
How to choose, in four steps
- Start from your task app. Todoist: Focus Now, Flowmo, FocusFrog, Tasks 'n Timers. Google Tasks: Focus Now, Flowmo, FocusCommit, Tasks 'n Timers.
- Decide where your data may go. If you'd rather your tasks and history didn't sit on the app maker's servers, read each privacy policy. FocusFrog and Tasks 'n Timers keep them on your phone (and, for Tasks 'n Timers, your own Drive).
- Check your devices. Need Android, a computer or a browser too? Focus Now, Flowmo and FocusCommit cover them.
- Test the sync before you pay. Use the free week on a real day's tasks. Tick one off in the timer and check that it's ticked in Todoist or Google Tasks.
The short version
The best Pomodoro app is the one that reads the task list you already keep, so starting is a tap and finished tasks go back where they belong. Focus Now covers the most task apps and devices. Flowmo suits flexible sessions and TickTick. FocusCommit suits boards, desktops and Google Tasks. FocusFrog suits Todoist on iPhone, for free. Tasks 'n Timers suits Google Tasks and Todoist on iPhone, with estimates, a daily plan and your data in your own Drive.
